Is your teenager having a hard time on tests like the SAT or ACT because of weakness in math?
Your teenager can turn this challenge into an opportunity for success – not just on the SAT, but for life!
To take a step toward the solution, let's take a closer look at the problem..
One big part of the problem is a misunderstanding -- based on outdated ideas-- about how the brain works.
Many young people get the idea -- usually early in their school career -- that they are simply no good in math.
It's as if "no good in math" is simply their inheritance -- coded into their DNA.
Under the influence of outdated brain science, they -- and their teachers -- think their brains are simply not wired for math.
According to a more up-to-date scientific view of the brain, we shape our brains according to how we use them.
So, the more likely truth is that your teenager is not permanently bad at math, they just have not learned to approach math in a way that works for them.
The other big part of the problem is a misunderstanding about what the SAT and ACT really are.
Students often approach them as if they were intelligence tests -- but they're not.
No student should take their SAT or ACT score as an indication of how smart they are.
This one wrong idea is where most students go astray with the SAT or ACT.
It's why most students don't practice enough for it, and why they practice the wrong way.
Why would you practice at all if you thought the thing was an intelligence test -- wouldn't you just take it?
It's also why students let their math weakness stand.
If they see the SAT as an intelligence test and they think they're not smart in math, they don't think they can do anything about it.
So, if the SAT and ACT are not intelligence tests, then what are they?
They're games of skill.
And this one idea can clarify the wrong ideas that teenagers hold about SAT / ACT Math and free them up for success.
In the next (3rd) part of this 5-part article, I'll show you how you can guide your teenager toward success on SAT / ACT math and beyond.
